The course runs through the spring term and is a continuation of GK1.
The students are divided into two architecture studios. Lectures and reviews are open to both studios to the extent that it is possible with concern to individual schedules.
Each studio has a teaching staff of three half time teachers. As far as the architecture studios are concerned the briefs will be common to the two studios. The main focus of the studio is working with design tasks in connection to dwelling. The year is divides into different phases in order to make possible investigations and studies focused on particular topics, in alphabetical order:
- Drawing conventions
- Function
- Program/brief
- Site/situation
- Sustainability
- Structure
The course prepares the students for further studies.
The student should acquire experience with the design process; from concept development to project presentation. He/she should gain insight into working methods and professional tools, learning two- and three dimensional representations, written and oral communication. The student should learn to use freehand drawing as an analytical mean and acquires basic knowledge of computer aided design.
The teaching is mainly in the form 1:1 tutoring in the studios and discussions in connection with reviews. Teachers (and to an extent external lecturers) will give lectures on topics that are relevant to the studio projects. There are short excursions to suitable buildings, industry and sites during the term and a major excursion to Rome at the end of the semester.

The work is reviewed with a guest critic that does not belong to the regular staff. The studio work is to be gathered in a portfolio and reviewed at the end of the semester. The course is assessed as pass/fail,
subject to the Regulations for Master's degree programmes at Oslo School of Architecture and Design, § 6-14.
There are exams in modern architectural- and design history and material technology at the end of the 2nd semester..
