The course will identify and discuss marginal and advanced structures in architecture, their materiality and technological basis. To understand design desicions from problem identification to materials selection, manufacturing and construction becomes important. The main intention for the course is to offer knowledge of structural possibilities, materials and of manufacturing technologies beyond the common day-to day practice of architecture, with the aim of acting as a source of inspiration, as well as support, for the master courses at the Institute of Architecture.
A more particular focus for the course will be elaborated and decided upon well before final registration.
Attending the course, the student will aquire knowledge of certain materials and technologies that are available, but not in common use. The student will expand his/her vocabulary of structural and material possibilities, and will have trained the ability to think along unconventional lines.
