Course description

Introduction to Industrial Design gives a general introduction to the Industrial design topic. The course focuses on formal two- and three-dimensional expressions. By going through a series of design tasks organized by design processes in different materials, the students are supposed to explore different problem issues connected to the materials.

Learning outcomes

To obtain a general understanding of the subject, to be familiar with different tools adapted to the different phases of the design process, to learn different techniques in model building, and to develop an aesthetic and formal sensitivity.

Contents and teaching methods

Lectures, workshops, excursions, presentations. Integrated Solid Works course. Instructions will be given through individual, practical exercises. The theory will be provided through plenary lectures, and also integrated into the practical working tasks.

Exams and assessment methods

Individual evaluation based on delivered assessment documentation, like sketch material, physical models, and Solid Works renderings. Plenary presentation. 

Evaluation criteria:

  • quality of process
  • quality of submissions / end result
  • quality of communication and plenary presentations
  • working effort, dedication and presence

A pass semester requires presence at pre-announced activities, like lectures, workshops and plenary presentations.

Assessment method: Pass - Fail.
