Course description

Lectures on architectural and design theory and history before 1900 (Antiquity, Middle Ages, Renaissance/Baroque, and Historicism), as well as an introduction to “Space in Architectural History”. Parallel to the lecture series, the students make 3D models of key works in architectural history (studio 1 and 2) or writing assignments (studio 3).

Learning outcomes

The student shall have basic knowledge about pre-modern european architectural- design- and art history in a wide historical, theoretical and cultural context.

Contents and teaching methods

Lectures, literature studies, model building and essay writing.

Exams and assessment methods

Assignments. Exam week 24-2011.

The course is assessed subject to an A-F  grade scale. E  is the poorest pass mark, as stated in the Regulations for Master's degree programmes at Oslo School of Architecture and Design, § 6-14.
