Course description

City analysis and development of urban strategies for two cities in Østfold - Fredrikstad and Sarpsborg

Today, these cities are transforming, and the economic base is no longer mainly industrial. This leads to changes in how and where people live, it places new demands on infrastructure, and it frees up space for urban transformation. At the same time these cities are strongly linked to expansion of the Oslo region and will in the future have a significant population growth due to major expansion of the railway system. Another special condition is the Scandinavian "8 million city" that many see develop along the new communication arteries between Copenhagen via Gothenburg to Oslo. This development creates new mobility patterns and brings the cities closer to the EU labor market.

Both the development of the region, urban centres and transportation systems will be the focus areas. Environmental aspects, quality of life, functionality and competitiveness will be important topics.
