GK3 Design theory 1 (6 ECTS) og GK3 Mechanics (6 ECTS)
The course focuses on ergonomics and universal design. The students are trained in a user centred and inclusive design process. Introductions in product semantics, interaction design and 3D modelling will be given.
After finishing the course the students shall be able to:
- Understand the importance of needs and requirements of the end users and stakeholders.
- Use terms and concepts within the disciplines of universal design, esthetics and interaction design.
- Use some physical and digital tools in their designing.
- Work within the frame of universal design principles.
The course is divided into two projects where half of the students are working analytic and the other visionary. Half way into the semester a new theme will be presented and the working methods of the student group changed. One focus area will be Universal Design of products and services.
The teaching is based on lectures, exercises, tutorials and presentations.
The following themes are taught:
- Product semantics
- Sketching techniques
- 3D computer modeling
- User centered design: Techniques and tools
- Interaction design methods
- Universal design
- Testing and evaluations
The students are assessed base on their work in the modules and in the two projects. Besides the results and solutions, the methods are also evaluated and the design process must therefore be documented. It is mandatory to be present at project starts, the lectures, supervising and the presentations.
The course is assessed subject to an A-F
grade scale. E
is the poorest pass mark, as stated in the Regulations for Master's degree programmes at Oslo School of Architecture and Design, § 6-14.
