Course description

The student is enrolled in the ‘Rome-seminar’ at the Norwegian Institute in Rome from October 1st  through November 30th  2010 (20 credits), involving lectures on cultural history, politics, archeology, literature, architecture and art. See www.uio.no/studier/emner/hf/ifikk/ROMA2020/ .

The institute provides working space at the Institute in Trastevere from September 1st  through November 30th , and will probably offer inexpensive housing in Rome. Travel and living expenses at the cost of each participant. The students will design a museum in the periphery of Rome, on a conceptual level to be embodied architecturally. Further details concerning the site will be provided at the beginning of the term. 

Learning outcomes

The lecture series gives a profound introduction to Roman cultural history. The architecture students are encouraged to contextualize the knowledge acquired from the lectures and to make it relevant for the design assignment.

Contents and teaching methods

Lecture series at the Norwegian Institute, including a final examination. Programming of individual project in August/September (in Oslo or Rome), developing of the project in Rome, completion and presentation in Oslo in December.

Exams and assessment methods

Exam completed in Rome, evaluation of architectural assignment in Oslo in December.
